Conclave on Clean and Green Planet

Over the last century, anthropogenic activities have intensely metamorphosed the earth’s ecosystem and resulted into major environmental changes. These changes have resulted in challenges like environmental pollution, climate change, global warming, land degradation, paucity of potable water, increase of diseases, resource scarcity, and biodiversity loss. A holistic approach towards sustainable solutions is essential to embark on new paths that will lead to a Clean and Green Planet.

India has envisioned to create an additional carbon sink of 2.5-3.0 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2030 through forest and tree cover to reduce the emission intensity[2]. For this, the Indian government is pursuing afforestation and reforestation through policies and programmes such as the National Mission on Green India, the National Afforestation Programme, compensatory afforestation, and plantation drives across States.

This is a crucial decade as countries are gearing up recovery from COVID-19 pandemic and every decision will determine the progress in building a Clean and Green Planet. It is a shared responsibility in the wake of limited resources, where greater involvement of stakeholders in planning process has become extremely crucial. Government of India encourages companies to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability into the business processes. Businesses being the engine of growth and employment, play an important role in mitigating climate change and contributing to delivering the Sustainable Development Goals. Achieving both inclusive and sustainable national development will be possible only when there is a collaborative effort from all stakeholders.  

It is with this background Confederation of India Industry (CII) is organising the webinar on Clean and Green Planet that will focus on the collective effort in building a sustainable future of this planet.
