ABOUT EVENT

Organizations worldwide are working towards achievement of United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. Climate change initiatives are becoming prominent as awareness among Industry, Governments and Users continue to improve. Large logistics service providers have initiated actions to move towards cleaner and greener logistics. These include all modes of transportation, storage, packaging, and handling services. However, the progression towards sustainable and resilient logistics systems has inherent challenges for the present and the future.

Risks are inevitable in logistics. While the impact of pandemic is fast receding, relative importance of risk and resilience in logistics systems is now pointing to responses for geopolitical dynamics. The logistics sector has a prominent role to play in the success of risk management frameworks being established in macro and micro economic scenarios. At macro level responses are in the form of accelerated logistics infrastructure projects, deliberations on alternative sources of energy for logistics such as blended fuels, battery operated vehicles and hydrogen fuel.  At micro level, logistics service providers and users are demonstrating increasing awareness of sustainability goals in logistics service providers, introducing novel talent management practices and assessing emerging technologies for cargo visibility.

Present challenges include availability of talent at all the levels of management in logistics sector. This problem has become more acute after pandemic. New talent management models must be evolved to attract and retain talent for the future. Clean logistics technologies, digital ecosystems and green warehouses hold key for success of sustainability goals. The pace of change is also constrained by talent readiness.

This edition of Logistics Summit spotlights ongoing logistics sustainability initiatives in India and overseas. Three technical sessions focus on deliberations related to initiatives, challenges, and good practices in achieving sustainability goals, talent management and emerging technologies in logistics sector.

Session 1: Sustainable logistics - clean, green and circular

Beyond traditional budgeting, there is a need for considering sustainability factors and resilience enablers in the logistics sector. While there are ongoing deliberations on various cost-benefits across range of sustainability projects, deeper collaborations among Industry, Government and Users hold the key for success of such projects.

Global sustainability project themes such as clean air, reduced CO2 emissions and circular economies offer broad canvas for collective initiatives by stakeholders. In this session, the panellists will focus on exploring practical solutions for logistics sector to move forward with sustainability projects:

  1. What are the global success stories in clean air, reduced CO2 emissions and circular economies?
  2. Will blended fuel provide an answer to fossil fuel consumption problems?
  3. How Indian logistics service providers are addressing clean air goals?
  4. How to reduce / offset CO2 emissions from warehouses?
  5. What is the maturity of recycling practices in logistics services, especially in road transport and packaging areas?
  6. Can green logistics index be useful?

Session 2: Maximizing Logistics Productivity through Real-Time Supply Chain Visibility

Efficient and resilient supply chains all start with one thing: better visibility. Find out how location technology plays a critical role in optimizing every stage of the supply chain: from boosting efficiency and productivity to reducing costs, disruptions and delays.

Explore how end-to-end shipment visibility indoor and outdoor, on the road, in-air and at sea can help achieve best in class ETAs, meet delivery SLAs and boost NPS score. The importance of full shipment condition monitoring to detect damages in transit and increase on-time, in-full performance has increased – thereby driving costs down and raising customer satisfaction up.

In this session, the panellists will discuss the importance of real-time supply chain visibility, the ways in which companies can maximize the logistics productivity and the various business model to deploy to achieve this visibility:

  1. What are the various business models evolving in implementing the real-time supply chain visibility?
  2. What are the different ways companies are aiming for real-time supply chain visibility?
  3. What are the ways the companies are reimagining the profit with current talents and capabilities?
  4. How real-time supply chain visibility can help in planning production operations and ramping up capabilities for manufacturers?
  5. How real-time supply chain visibility can help in providing key information and real-time updates about order backlogs and help to strategize or tweak inventory management processes?
  6. How real-time supply chain visibility can support in tracking real-time information about cargo batches, consignments, and delivery status?

Session 3: New vistas in logistics talent

Post pandemic situation is resulting in acute attrition rates in logistics and user sectors as well. Long run human capital development is critical for success. With renewed infrastructure, equipment and technologies the expectations at workplace are changing and enterprises need to work towards attracting and retaining suitable talent for future.

Logistics sector talent requirements include skilled operators, quality management, and commercial professionals. The gaps related to such areas in logistics sector is growing due to increasing cost of trained professionals and rapid growth of the sector. The problem is expected to compound with introduction of emerging technologies and sustainability perspectives. The panellists will focus on reasons, corrective actions and long run standardization practices in logistics talent management:

  1. What are the key drivers of logistic talent crunch?
  2. How are MSME logistics service providers viewing talent problem?
  3. Are there any lesson that can drawn from user sector to develop talent in logistics sector?
  4. What are the expectations from organized logistics players in talent acquisition, retention?
  5. Are there any good practices that can be reviewed from global logistics players to acquire and retain talent?
