India’s gems and jewellery sector is one of the most important sectors of Indian economy. Currently, the gems and jewellery industry (including gold) of India is approximately Rs. 650,000 crores in size, constituted of 90-95% of MSMEs and contributes significantly to National Industrial Production. As of January 2017, the industry employs around 6.1 million skilled and semi-skilled workers across the entire value chain. It is highly export-oriented and labour intensive thus a major contributor towards employment, GDP and foreign exchange earnings. India accounts one of the largest share of global gold jewellery demand.
Considering its importance to the economy, CII this year constituted a Task Force on Gems & Jewellery comprising of leaders from the industry, various sectoral associations/councils and government representatives. The Task Force envisions to play an important role in building the brand of the sector and represent a unified voice. The Sub Groups formed under the Task Force have worked intensively to emerge out with its key submissions.
To present its key deliberations, CII is organising 2-Day Digital Conference: Self-Reliance in Jewellery: Mining, Manufacturing & Markets on 26-27 November 2020. The Conference would have focussed sessions on Building Brand India, Value Addition in the Sector, Bringing Transparency & Trust, Gold Policy and International Best Practices.
Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Commerce and Industry Minister has kindly agreed to grace the occasion and join the Inaugural Session on 26 November from 1600-1700 hrs.
