ABOUT EVENT

With the economy poised to reach the 5 trillion-dollar mark in the next few years, India is expected to be one of the top three economic powers in the world in 10-15 years. In 2022, India will be the fastest growing economy[1] and to support the economic and industrial growth, there is a need for skilled workforce, particularly for the MSMEs. Additionally, with the advent of Industry 4.0 and increased digitization, the need for skilling, re-skilling and up-skilling is an urgent priority. A skilled workforce is the foundation for competitiveness.

As India marches towards its 75th year of Independence in 2022, CII, with the Theme Building India for a New World: Competitiveness, Growth, Sustainability, Technology has been working in a focused manner on Skill Development and Livelihood, impacting more than 1 million youth annually.

There exists a significant dichotomy between 10-12 million youth joining the working age annually and the supply of skilled workforce for the industry. The CII-Wheebox India Skills Report 2021 has found that only 45.9% of the youth are considered highly employable resources, a decline from 46.21% in 2020 and 47.38% in 2019.

Providing decent work and livelihood is a national (and global) level agenda. According to McKinsey Global Institute, India needs to increase its rate of employment growth and create 90 million non-farm jobs between 2023 and 2030[2]. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme is expected to generate 4.20 crore man-months of jobs.

The 7th CII National Conference on Skill Development & Livelihood 2021 with the theme ‘Reimagining & Reinventing Skill Development Ecosystem for Productivity, Livelihood & Sustainable Growth’ will deliberate and develop strategies to overcome the challenges in the skill ecosystem to enhance the productivity of the workforce while achieving social impact.

The sessions will be centred on Training BY and IN Industry, Greater Women Participation in Workforce, Leveraging Technology and Developing Blended Models for delivery, National Education Policy 2020 – Bridging Skills & Education, International Benchmarked Skilling, and Placements, among others.

The Conference will mark the convergence of top Policy Makers, Industry, Academia, Think Tanks and domain experts to discuss successful case studies as well as strategies required.
